Notes on taking courses

Please consult with your academic advisor prior to taking Common Graduate Courses.

The number of students listed in parentheses is the number of students who can take the course. If the number of applicants exceeds this number, students will be selected.

Please register for 全学開講科目 through Chiba University Student Portal during the registration period specified by 全学教育センター. There will be separate instructions for study abroad courses (留学科目), so please refer to the Student Portal and the bulletin boards of your graduate school.

To register for a course offered by a graduate school (研究科・学府開講科目), please obtain the prior consent of the instructor and report to the office in charge of academic affairs of the graduate school during the registration period specified by the graduate school.

Each graduate school handles credits for Common Graduate Courses differently, so please be sure to check in advance.

Credit handling in each graduate school

The following outlines the handling of credits for Common Graduate Courses in each graduate school. For more details, please contact the office in charge of academic affairs in your graduate school.

Graduate School Unit Handling
Graduate School of Humanities and Studies on Public Affairs
Master’s Program
These courses are counted as free electives and are included in the credits required for completion.
Graduate School of Humanities and Studies on Public Affairs
Doctoral Program
These courses will be approved for credit, but will not be included in the credits required for completion.
Graduate School of Humanities and Studies on Public Affairs These courses are counted as free electives and are included in the credits required for completion.
Graduate School of Education
Master's Program
These courses will be included in the credits for completion as elective courses.
Graduate School of Education
Professional Degree Course
These courses will be approved for credit, but will not be included in the credits required for completion.
Graduate School of Science and Engineering
Master’s Program
Courses offered in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering will be included in the credits required for completion in the subject categories specified by the course to which the student belongs. Other course credits will be included in the credits for completion as common courses(共通科目).
Graduate School of Science and Engineering
Doctoral Program
(Students enrolled before 2019)
Courses offered in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering that are allowed to be included in the credits for completion of the 専門科目(共通)or 専門科目 in the course to which the student belongs will be included in the credits for completion in the relevant category.
Other course credits will be approved for credit, but will not be included in the requirements for completion.

Doctoral Program
(Students enrolled after 2020)
Courses offered in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering will be included in the credits required for completion in the subject categories specified by the course to which the student belongs.
Other course credits will be included in the credits required for completion as 共通科目.
Graduate School of Horticulture
(Students enrolled before 2017)
These courses will be approved for credit, but will not be included in the credits required for completion.
Graduate School of Horticulture
(Students enrolled in 2018 and 2019)
A maximum of 4 credits in the Master's Course and 2 credits in the Doctoral Course can be included in the credits required for completion as 基盤科目.
Graduate School of Horticulture
(Students enrolled after 2020)
A maximum of 4 credits in the Master's Course and 2 credits in the Doctoral Course can be included in the credits required for completion as elective courses.
Graduate School of Medical Sciences These courses will be included in the credits for completion as elective courses.
Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences A maximum of 2 courses can be included in the credits for completion as elective courses.
Graduate School of Nursing
Master’s Program
(Students enrolled before 2020)
A maximum of 4 credits can be included in the completion requirements as elective courses. These include credits taken at other graduate schools.
Graduate School of Nursing
Master’s Program
(Students enrolled after 2021)
These courses will be approved for credit, but will not be included in the credits required for completion.
Graduate School of Nursing
Programs other than Master's Program
These courses will be approved for credit, but will not be included in the credits required for completion.
Graduate Degree Program of Global and Transdisciplinary Studies These courses are counted as free electives and are included in the credits required for completion.
